YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, better known as BeerBiceps online, opened up about the controversy he attracted after he made scandalous remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent show. In an interview, Ranveer said that his business came to a standstill, he felt isolated, and that his family was targeted after the controversy broke out. He expressed gratitude to his employees, none of whom resigned during the difficult phase, when he was barred from uploading new content onto his channel. He was eventually given a go-ahead by the Supreme Court, and is focusing on a new direction to take his channel in.

Appearing on Prafful Garg’s show on YouTube, Ranveer said that he managed to pay the salaries of his employees during the two months when his income had come to a standstill. “When it was happening, I was in action mode and defence mode. It’s only now that I’m beginning to understand what happened. Society doesn’t understand how one’s family is being affected during situations like this. For two months, I couldn’t cry. I tried to, but I was angry, mostly at myself. I was especially angry at the news channel that ‘attacked’ my mother,” he said.

Ranveer added, “It was a feeding frenzy. Some celebrities claimed that they’d even rejected an invite to the show. The truth is that we never invited them in the first place. In such situations, I felt angry at human beings in general. But I realised that the predicament that I was in was a result of my own actions. I couldn’t change the past, but I could change the future. I got a forced break after a crazy, intense six-year podcasting journey. I’m just trying to move on; I’ve tried to forgive a lot of people, even myself, and to a degree, I’ve been successful.”

Ranveer also spoke about the economical impact of the ban. He said, “For two weeks, I stayed with my childhood best friend. My family was there for me, some mentors were there for me. A few Bollywood folks also reached out to empathise. I wasn’t completely alone, but when you’re in situations like this, there is a certain darkness that you feel. I wonder if my mistake was actually so bad that my mother was threatened and my income came to a stop. We were able to pay salaries, but this was easily the most difficult phase of my life. But who cares about me? I’m fine.”

Previously, singer B Praak had come out to condemn Ranveer after the controversy, claiming that he wouldn’t be appearing on his show. “I was supposed to appear on a podcast, on BeerBiceps, and we cancelled that.” He added, “Aur yeh Ranveer Allahbadia, aap Sanatan Dharma ko promote karte ho, spirituality ki baat karte ho. Aapke podcast pe itne bade-bade log aate hain, itne bade sant aate hain, aur fir bhi aapki soch itni ghatiya hai? (You promote Sanatan Dharma and host so many influential people, still your thinking is so shoddy),” Praak had said in a video. Later, he softened his stance, and told Hindustan Times, “I liked watching his podcasts and I really wanted to go on his show. Our teams had been discussing the dates for six-seven months. Sometimes, he would be busy and travelling, and sometimes I would be.”
