Veteran actor Ranjeet, who has acted in over 500 films, is among the most popular villains Bollywood has seen. His creepy dialogues and scenes where he is seen pulling sarees and tearing the clothes of leading female actors, continue to fume the audience. The molestation scenes he enacted, often made people in real life look at him with despise. The Sharmeelee actor recently recalled the era when he had to come up with dialogues as and when they were shooting the scenes since there was no custom of writing dialogues for villain roles back then. “The dialogues were spontaneous and impromptu. I came up with those lines on my own. There were no dialogues written for villains, they were only meant for heroes and heroines,” Ranjeet said during his recent appearance on ANI’s podcast.

Ranjeet was known for infamous dialogues like “Kaato Jaaneman. Jitna kaatogi mere kareeb aaogi, door se tum katt nahin sakti  (Bite me sweetheart. For you to bite me, you will have to come closer to me. You can’t do it from afar),” “Aye chamiyaa, idhar aao (Darling, come here!)” and  “Chillayo jitna chillana hai. Tumhari awaaz takra kar tumhare paas aayaegi (Scream as much as you can. Your voice will come back to you).”

Though the Dharmatma actor may have played roles where he has maligned the dignity of women onscreen, he doesn’t enjoy item songs, “vulgarity” and “profanity” in OTT shows and films of recent times. He said, “I only managed to watch two or three web shows in the pandemic, out of which one was Indian, the others international shows based on history. I stopped watching OTT shows after that! The show was filled with vulgarity and profanity. The language was vulgar. You feel embarrassed to watch such shows in front of your staff or family,” he rued.

Further, talking about the bold content in today’s films, he added. “If you see today’s film, it appears as if they’ve removed the original scenes and replaced them with item numbers and molestation scenes. Back in the day, Bindu and Helen performed cabaret dance in films, but they were extremely graceful. Waheeda Rehman ji’s dance sequence in Guide was so elegant. We also abused in our films but never went beyond ‘ullu ka pattha’ (idiot)  or ‘haramzada (bastard).”

The actor recently revealed that Madhuri Dixit nearly refused to shoot the molestation scene from the film Prem Pratigya and started crying. “I was unaware of it,” he added.
