Actor Rani Mukerji shed light on her relationship with husband, film producer Aditya Chopra, who successfully eluded the public eye until earlier this year, when he appeared in a documentary series about his family’s Yash Raj Films studio. In an interview, Rani said that she brings a much-needed spark to his life, and also revealed that their favourite thing to do together is to watch movies.

In an interview with Film Companion, Rani said that she loves the communal experience of going to the movies and smelling the food and sipping on a beverage. She said that streaming had its run, but nothing can replace the theatrical experience. She said, “For me, the best time that Adi and me have is when we go to watch a movie together. That’s something that we continue doing every Friday.”

Asked if she is still able to go to public screenings, Rani said no, and added with a smile, “In YRF, in Mumbai.” As the crowd laughed, she added, “But when we’re outside India, we go everywhere. It’s lovely to hold hands and go, it’s quite nice.” Rani said that Aditya still likes to go to the Gaiety Galaxy single screen in Mumbai, but has started to get recognised more often after appearing in Netflix’s documentary series The Romantics.

Rani was reminded what her late mother-in-law, Pam Chopra, had said about her influence on Aditya’s life. She had said that Aditya enjoyed singing to himself when he was younger, and started doing it again after he married Rani. Asked if she made him a more ‘relaxed’ and ‘happier person’, Rani said, “I think the best thing about a relationship is that you need to shock your partner every day. And I shock Adi every day. Every day he sees a new me. Bechara (poor guy), he’s simple. It’s boring to be simple. He tells me that for him, it’s like putting on a new channel every day. One day it’s comedy, one day it’s drama, one day it’s violence. One day it’s romance, of course.”

Rani and Aditya Chopra tied the knot in the year 2014. They have one child, daughter Adira, who was born in 2015. She was last seen in the film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway.
