While many jokes fell flat in the premiere episode of comedian Kapil Sharma’s new show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, there were still some touching moments shared with guests Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor. During their interaction, Ranbir reminisced about his father and the late actor Rishi Kapoor and recalled the one and only time his father hit him.

While speaking about Rishi, Neetu also shared how Rishi played a significant role in instilling values in their children. Ranbir shared how Rishi was a religious man and how he even hit him once for wearing shoes inside the temple of RK Studios. He said, “Mujhe ek hi baar bohot zor ki pari thi! Diwali puja at RK Studios. Papa bohot religious thay. I think I was eight or nine years old. Toh main chappal pehenke andar chala gaya tha mandir mein. Toh mujhe dapli pari thi (He hit me only once, very hard! He was a religious man and I had entered the temple premises without opening my shoes. So he had hit me on the head)!”

While Ranbir mentioned this as the only time Rishi had hit him, he humorously added that his mother, Neetu, was not as sparing, recalling times when she disciplined him, even using a hanger.

The 41-year-old actor lost his father to cancer in April 2020. In his earlier interview with PTI, Ranbir reflected on the impact of the loss. He said, “The biggest thing that happens in an individual’s life is when you lose one of your parents. That really is something… Especially when you’re nearing your 40s, that’s the time when something like this usually happens… Nothing prepares you for that, but it brings the family closer. It makes you understand life.”

On the professional front, Ranbir is currently immersed in preparations for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, where he will portray the role of Lord Ram. Sai Pallavi has been cast as Sita, with KGF star Yash reportedly in talks to play Ravana.
