It was perhaps a rare evening when Ranbir Kapoor trended on the internet– for the right reason. The actor on Tuesday attended the 69th National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi, where his actor wife Alia Bhatt was given the best actor honour, and walked away with brownie points as well for his conduct.

In a video that has surfaced from the evening, Ranbir was seen being protective around actor Waheeda Rehman as photographers swarmed the veteran for pictures. Waheeda Rehman was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke award at the ceremony.

Ranbir, who was seated right behind Waheeda, was seen getting up, visibly annoyed, and requesting media to be careful around the actor as they were pushing the table, which in turn was coming onto Waheeda. When the camera pans at Waheeda Rehman, the veteran also looks uncomfortable.

Ranbir then sits back and starts explaining the situation to Alia–seated next to him–who also nods in agreement and the duo share a brief word about it, though the conversation is inaudible.

The internet, of course, liked Ranbir’s gesture and was quick to compliment the actor. “Such a gentleman 🧿❤️,” a fan wrote while another called Ranbir “cute” for stepping in for Waheeda. “That’s called upbringing…,” a user wrote.

During the National Awards ceremony, Ranbir was also seen cheering for wife Alia Bhatt. As the actor went on stage to receive the honour from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, Ranbir was filmed recording the moment on his phone– with a big smile on his face.

Alia won the award for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, which released last year to acclaim and box-office glory. On the work front, Ranbir is currently awaiting the release of his next, Animal. The Sandeep Reddy Vanaga directorial is scheduled to hit cinemas on December 1.
