‘Ranbir Kapoor gave 37 takes for a scene in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’, recalls Luv Ranjan: ‘It was the third day of shoot’

Filmmaker Luv Ranjan‘s 2023 romantic comedy, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, marked his first collaboration with actor Ranbir Kapoor. In a recent interview, Ranjan shared insights into their working relationship and the creative process behind the film. He revealed that while shooting for a particular scene of the film, Ranbir gave 37 takes. The actor was ready to give more if Luv wasn’t happy with it.

Ranjan, while talking about his film on Sony Max, revealed that his partnership with Ranbir was initially intended for a different project, alongside Ajay Devgn. Although that film never materialised, the time spent together sparked a connection between Ranbir and him. “It was a new association. Ranbir and I were working together for the first time… We started talking there. It was a film we were supposed to do together but the combination didn’t work well and the film didn’t get made,” Ranjan explained. Their conversations led to the development of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Ranjan had already conceived the idea, and Ranbir was familiar with it. “We had discussed it a lot. We decided that since this idea is good, we should do this film instead,” Ranjan said.

The director praised Ranbir’s dedication and work ethic, highlighting a particular scene that required 37 takes. Ranjan recalled, “There are times, while making a film, lots of interesting things happen… For example, it was the third day of shoot and we took 37 takes of Ranbir. He is a kind of person, who, even after giving 37 takes, will come to you and say, ‘If you are not 100 percent happy, let me know, I’ll give one more. Don’t just say okay because I gave 37 takes.'”

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar starred Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. The film explored the complexities of modern relationships and love. The film was perceived as a hit at the box office.
