‘Ran away from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s set when I saw him abuse someone,’ says Haarsh Limbachiyaa, recalls how he impressed filmmaker with his script

Haarsh Limbachiyaa said he narrated a script to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and that impressed the filmmaker enough to offer him an assistant's position.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to be a hard taskmaster on set and stories of him yelling and abusing his actors, assistants on set have been shared by many in the past. In a recent chat, actor-comedian Haarsh Limbachiyaa recalled the time when he landed on Bhansali’s set as an assistant but ran away as soon as he heard Bhansali abusing another assistant. Haarsh had actually secured that job after narrating him a “double meaning sex comedy script” that made him laugh.

Haarsh recalled this on the YouTube channel Bharti TV and shared, “I met Bhansali many years ago and I narrated a double meaning sex comedy script to him. I don’t know why but I narrated it to him and he laughed so much. He said, ‘Haarsh, I can’t produce this but this is very good. You should come and assist me, I see something in you’.” Haarsh recalled that he was fairly new to the business at that time and after this validation from an industry veteran, he went “bonkers”. “I left everything I was doing on TV. I was doing Comedy Circus then. And I landed on the set of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela,” he recalled.

The film starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles and also starred Richa Chadha, Sharad Kelkar, Supriya Pathak, Gulshan Devaiah in supporting roles. Haarsh recalled that this was his first visit on a massive set. “For the first time, I saw Bhansali’s set. He had some 12-13 assistants,” he said. It was then that Haarsh recalled seeing Bhansali abuse another assistant and this, instantly, unnerved him. “I saw him abuse someone, and I came back immediately. After I returned, the person who introduced us, Bhansali abused him a lot. ‘See that boy ran away’. I said I can’t be in a place where people abuse me. I got out right then,” he recalled.

Haarsh, who works as a writer and host on television, often collaborates with wife Bharti Singh.
