Rakesh Roshan undergoes surgery for 75% carotid artery blockage, says he’s saved from ‘potentially dangerous’ health scare

Rakesh Roshan revealed that doctors had found a 75% blockage in his carotid arteries to the brain during a routine health check-up.

Days after reports emerged that Rakesh Roshan had undergone surgery due to a health concern, the filmmaker himself took to Instagram to share an update on his condition. In the post, Rakesh revealed that doctors had found a 75% blockage in his carotid arteries to the brain during a routine health check-up and that he had immediately undergone “preventative procedures” to address it.

Rakesh also shared a photo with the hospital’s nursing staff and wrote that had he ignored the blockage, it could have proven “dangerous” to his health in the future. He wrote, “This week has been truly eye opening, during a routine full body health check up the Dr conducting the sonography for the heart suggested I also do one for the neck. By chance we found out that although asymptomatic, both my carotid arteries to the brain were above 75% blocked. Which if ignored could be potentially dangerous. I immediately admitted myself into the hospital and got the preventative procedures done.”

Rakesh shared that he is now back home after the procedure, fully recovered, and ready to get back to his daily workouts. He wrote, “I am back home now fully recovered and hope to get back to my workouts very soon. I hope this inspires others to stay on top of their health especially where the heart and brain is concerned. A heart CT and a carotid brain artery sonography (which is often ignored completely) is a must for everyone above 45–50 years old. I think it’s important to remember that prevention is always better than cure. I wish a healthy and aware year to you all.”

Earlier, in a conversation with Amar Ujala Digital, Rakesh’s daughter Sunaina Roshan spoke about him undergoing angioplasty in his neck and said, “Yes, papa had an angioplasty in his neck, but he’s perfectly fine now. There’s nothing to worry about. He’s resting.”

In the past, Rakesh Roshan has dealt with serious health issues. In 2018, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He, however, beat the disease and has since been actively sharing his workout routine and health journey on social media. On the work front, Rakesh was supposed to direct Krrish 4, but it was later announced that he has handed over the baton to Hrithik Roshan, who will mark his directorial debut with the film.
