Rajveer Deol on ‘strict dad’ Sunny Deol, how mother Pooja Deol is ‘most genuine person’: ‘She doesn’t give a sh*t about Bollywood’
Rajveer Deol spoke about mother Pooja Deol and how she is the most genuine person he knows and very different from father Sunny Deol.

Actor Sunny Deol and wife Pooja Deol’s younger son Rajveer Deol recently made his acting debut with the film Dono. The youngest Deol to enter Bollywood elaborated on growing up in a film family, and why his mother’s distance from the world of showbiz was a blessing.
In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Rajveer expressed gratitude for leading a simple life. He said, “If fame was the sun, my mother is Pluto. I am realising now it’s such a blessing to have someone like that, that doesn’t give a s**t about Bollywood, and you grow up more real, you grow up more honest, because in this fame line, there are a lot of fake people. And I have someone who is such a genuine person in my life, so I thank her a lot.”
Rajveer comes from a family of actors. His grandfather Dharmendra is a veteran superstar and his father Sunny recently delivered the biggest blockbuster of his career, Gadar 2. His uncles Bobby and Abhay are actors as well along, as is his brother Karan.
Asked how he handled reading rumours about his father’s personal life growing up, he said that he isn’t one to judge anybody. “As a kid, you take it very seriously, and you do get affected, and that’s when you need to have more communication with your family members to make you realise that, that’s not reality, this is reality. I would ask my mom certain questions and she would tell me,” said Rajveer.
However, there is a positive side to being part of a film family as well, and he said, “I feel like after becoming an actor, you have be very empathetic with everybody, you have to walk in everybody’s shoes. You can’t judge anyone in this world and you realise its such an immature quality to have, and we can’t avoid that quality because we are so quick to judge.”
He added, “But at the same time, with judgement, you should have a real conversation of really what does a person go through, what makes that person. Once you answer all these questions within yourself, you realise there is no malice but just facts inside you and those facts give you relief.”
Sunny has always spoken about being a strict father to both his sons, and Rajveer confirmed this. Recalling his younger days, he said, “I am very close to my mom. I was closer to my mom than to my dad. Dad was very strict. I think he was just scared so much, he was so protective, so he would keep deadlines. I have to come home by 8.30 pm and I would tell dad, so it was a bit tricky in that aspect. My mom was more lenient. She knew for that age, you need to go out, experience life, do something stupid, grow from it. She was more lenient but strict in her own ways…”

Dharmendra, after his wedding to Rajveer’s grandmother Prakash Kaur, had a second marriage. He tied the knot with Hema Malini, with whom he had two daughters, Esha and Ahana. Hema recently spoke about having cordial relations with Sunny’s family.
When asked about his family dynamics and how he feels about it, Rajveer reiterated the learning of being non-judgmental. “I think once you understand the full picture, there is no judgement, but love for every individual for who they actually are, instead of trying to change them to fit an image that you think will fit better in the society or make you feel more comfortable to be presented in society. I think each of us is so unique and different. I look at everyone as grey… I can’t look at a person as just being nice, being angry or being evil. I think all of us have so many different shades that we don’t have the right to judge anybody. I truly believe that and I guess that is what keeps me sane,” he said.
