Actor Rajesh Khattar said that reports of him having run out of money were blown out of proportion a couple of years ago. In a 2021 interview, his wife Vandana Sajnani had claimed that they'd run out of their savings because of frequent health-related issues with her and their son, Yuvaan. In a new interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rajesh recalled hearing his wife make those comments, and said that the reporting about them that happened immediately afterwards was exaggerated. He said that he has multiple income streams besides acting, and that if he were to ever face financial difficulties, he has loved ones to rely on and doesn't need the pity and aid of strangers. Asked about the rumours, he laughed heartily and said, "We were in Delhi, my wife was giving a video interview during the lockdown, and after a few minutes, she got very relaxed with the interviewer. In a flow, she told her that we've run out of our savings, and I overheard this. It was a manner of speech, but in one week, it was blown out of proportion. I read a headline that we didn't have money for food." He said that initially, he laughed about it, but after a few days, relatives started calling. Thankfully, he said, he was given the space to offer a denial, but not before the rumour mongers had a field day. In her original comments to The Quint, Vandana had said, "We're talking of loads of savings, as actors. loads of savings gone down only in hospitalisations for the whole of last year." She continued in Hindi, "Kaam bilkul nahi hua, aur jitni savings thi almost woh bhi hospitalisations mein aur iss do saal ke lockdown mein chali gayi (there was no work, and almost all our savings were used up during these two years of lockdown and hospitalisations)." Rajesh said in the same interview that the biggest undoing for every actor is rent and school fees. He said that after a point, actors lose their ability to say no, and end up accepting all kinds of work only to pay the bills. And this is perhaps why he never made it as an A-list star. "Careers in this industry have been ruined because of rent and school fees," he said. "The day you lose the power to say no is the biggest compromise. People think they're being nice to me when they say I didn't get what I deserved, but I don't take such comments seriously. I'm still working, I have the power of choice, my phone keeps ringing."
