He starred in Mahesh Bhatt’s musical romantic drama Aashiqui and became an overnight star. However, despite signing 47 films immediately after the film’s success, Rahul couldn’t register another hit to his name. The only film of the actor that worked beside Aashiqui was the 1992 fantasy horror-drama Junoon.
Roy, in a recent interaction with Siddharth Kanan, revealed what went wrong for him after Aashiqui. He said he was willing to “give everything” to his projects but he was “duped” by the filmmakers. He said when he was offered the role he was promised something else and when he started shooting for it, things changed.
The actor said, “Jo kaam merko dena tha, unn logon ne sab le liya (whatever they wanted of me, they took everything), but they didn’t give what I was looking for.” Roy’s soul sister Priyanka Roy added, “He signed many films back to back (after Aashiqui). He got very busy. The kind of projects he wanted, those were not made, the outcome was different.”
After Aashiqui, Roy starred in films like Pyaar Ka Saaya, Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare, Jaanam, Gumrah and Majhdhaar among others. The actor shared that while offering him films, people told him: “These are great roles, you will be known for them”. But, “When I started shooting for them, I realised what they told me is very different from what is happening.”
However, now, three years after suffering a brain stroke, Rahul Roy is looking for work. Through the interview, he urged filmmakers, “I am Rahul Roy and I think I should do some more work. I urge you to give me work and I will be grateful to you. I will definitely do great work for you guys.”
