Priyanka Chopra says dad discouraged her from learning cooking, she is ‘not helpful in kitchen’: ‘I am intimidated by it’
Priyanka Chopra recently spoke about her father Ashok Chopra and shared how he was against her learning cooking skills.

Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas calls herself a foodie who loves to talk food and discuss dinner at lunch table. However, she says that while she is a big time foodie, she is not very helpful in kitchen. She said it was her father who didn’t want her to learn cooking.
Speaking to Harper Bazaar, Priyanka Chopra said, “I eat, but I am not very helpful in the kitchen. It feels intimidating to me. My father wasn’t a big fan of me learning how to cook. Growing up in India, he always saw the women in his family in the kitchen while the men were eating. So he was very clear that I wouldn’t do that.”
Priyanka, who credits her father Ashok Chopra for her success, has a tattoo inked in her right wrist that reads, “Daddy’s Lil Girl”.
Being born to an army couple, Priyanka often moved to multiple places. She said, “My dad made it a game. He was like, ‘You get to transform and be whoever you want to be at the new place.’ That was such a powerful concept to me.”
Priyanka often speaks about her father at various events and interviews. Previously, speaking to Vogue India, the actress told, “My dad was my biggest cheerleader. Any awards show, he would be my date. Every time I won anything, he’d be like, ‘Yeah!’ as if he’d won. I was like, ‘Dad, just turn it down by 10. He enjoyed my achievements more than I did.”
In another interview with the publication, Priyanka said, “After dad passed, me, my brother and my mother decided consciously to do it, but I still had a lot of negative feelings. I felt abandoned, I was angry and there were a lot of feelings that I had and didn’t know what to do with them.”
Ashok Chopra died in 2013 after losing battle with cancer.
