Miley Cyrus opens up about her relationship with Nick Jonas

“I like Nick,” the Grammy winner said. “I’m into him,” she insisted. Miley said she was left completely “distraught and sobbing” when Nick didn’t let her join the music tour and decided to focus on his own thing instead, back when they were together. She felt like he was pulling away from the Disney bubble while she still wanted to ride it out together. “Why are you leaving me?” she recalled asking him. “Why don’t we do it together?”

However, the singer then noted that they have all moved on with their lives, referencing Nick, who is now married to actor Priyanka Chopra, and the duo also share a 3-year-old daughter, Malti Marie. On the other hand, Cyrus is dating Maxx Morando, the pair has been together since 2021.

Miley now seems to have let go of the past, sentiments were not always the same. In her 2009 book Miles to Go, Miley opened up about her relationship with Nick for the first time and described him as Prince Charming. However, in the recent podcast, she joked that what she actually wanted to say back then was, “Nick Jonas dumped me, he’s a d**k.” But her team watered it down for the book. The editors let her say Nick wasn’t a “very nice boy.” But Miley recalled she wanted to write, “He’s an a**hole.”

The Flowers singer then laughed that Jonas is “still catching strays” nearly two decades after they called it quits. She even threw in a nostalgic “Niley for life” (their nickname) for the fans who were rooting for them back then.. However, the bitterness is gone now. Miley appreciated how Nick praised her and fellow Disney alums Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, saying that the whole Disney class made it out strong, with lasting careers.

For years, Miley ruled Disney with Hannah Montana, but when she left the show in 2011, she wasn’t allowed to sing a single song from that time. “It’s not like I wanted to—I mean, performing ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ wouldn’t have really made sense,” she shared on Spotify’s Ringer podcast earlier. “I wasn’t allowed to sing them. That was sad. Those songs had my voice, my face,” she said. Things only changed after she was named a Disney Legend in 2024. Now, she’s finally allowed to perform them again.
