Priyanka Chopra condoles Indian student’s tragic death in Seattle: ‘It’s appalling to learn…’

The tragic passing of 23-year-old Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula in the United States has shocked and deeply angered many. She was hit and killed by a Seattle police patrol vehicle while she was crossing the street on January 23. Months later, bodycam footage came out which had two policemen making inappropriate jokes about her death. Recently, actor Priyanka Chopra took to social media and reacted to Jaahnavi’s death.

Priyanka shared Jaanhavi’s picture and wrote, “It’s appalling to learn that such a tragic incident that occurred 9 months ago is only now coming to light. A life is only a life. It has no monetary worth.”

According to The Seattle Times, the police officer driving the car was going at the speed of 119 kmh, and the student’s body was thrown more than 100 feet away. Northeastern University has made the decision to award Jaanhavi her degree posthumously. Kenneth W. Henderson, the Chancellor of the University expressed hope that ongoing investigations will lead to justice.

Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar also reacted to the same and wrote, “#JaahnaviKandula. We didn’t know one other, but as a student prepared to create a name for herself in the world, I knew your potential was infinite and your worth enormous. Sincere condolences to your family. RIP.”

In the video doing the rounds on the internet, Officer Daniel Auderer’s reaction to Jaanhavi’s death was recorded on his body camera, where it seemed like he was laughing and saying insensitive things. As per a PTI report, Auderer was heard saying, “Yeah, just write a cheque. USD 11,000. She was 26 anyway, she had limited value.”
