OTT 6-month report: Panchayat 3 most watched; Heeramandi, Bigg Boss OTT 3 and The Great Indian Kapil Show also on the list

The half yearly report of the Indian streaming space is out, reflecting how the biggest titles of the first six month of 2024 fared in terms of viewership. The titles which made it to the top across formats (unscripted and fiction web series) include most talked about shows this year such as Anil Kapoor hosted Bigg boss OTT 3, Panchayat season 3, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi and Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force among others.

According to the Ormax’s mid-year OTT report, Prime Video’s Panchayat 3 lived up to its popularity and expectations as it emerged at the most watched Hindi web series so far. Garnering 28.2 million views, the TVF show starring Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav had a considerable lead among every other show released in the last six months.

The next best to follow was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-talked about Heeramandi, which garnered 20.3 million views. The Netflix show opened to mixed reactions but remained a dominant talking point on the internet thanks to memes and trolling the series was subjected to. The other two shows in the top five are Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force (19.5 million) and another Jitendra Kumar-led show, Kota Factory season 3.

Five platforms feature on the list, with Disney Plus Hotstar leading with five entries. The only AVOD series to feature on the list is Jamnapaar(Amazon miniTV), the report noted.

JioCinema’s Bigg Boss OTT S3 was the most-watched Indian unscripted show in the first half of 2024. At 17.8 million, the Anil Kapoor hosted show ranked number one on the list, followed by Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show at 14.5 million, Shark Tank India 3 at 12.5 million. “The four properties with >10 Mn viewership belong to different genres, indicating the potential for diversity of formats in non-fiction on OTT,” the report noted.

The report also tracked “most-buzzing shows” from January till June this year. ” A score on a 0-100 scale that measures %
audience who recalled the show or film unaided, when asked to recall upcoming or recently-launched streaming shows or film,” the metric read.

Even in this, Panchayat season three topped the list, followed by Heeramandi and Indian Police Force. Panchayat and Heeramandi were the only two shows that managed to cross a peak buzz of 30% in the first half of the year.

In terms of the “most liked shows” based on Ormax Power Rating, it was yet again a Panchayat win as the season three emerged as the number one series with 77 points. While Heeramandi enjoyed the second position in views and buzz, it slipped to the 8th position in the most liked shows list with 58 points.
