Nushrrat Bharuccha, who broke into the scene with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, is a part of the pan-India film Chatrapathi, which features Bellamkonda Sreenivas in the titular role. She shared how in the last few years, the world of cinema opened for her, and she got to consume a lot of content from the south and was totally taken in by the world.
“It’s not that it was important for me to do this film now but I have been wanting to do something like this. When I watched Baahubali, I was totally engulfed in the world. Their emotions, their conviction, the storytelling, everything seemed so real. Back then I felt I would love to do something like this. And then a Rajamouli and Prabhas remake came my way, I was like, chalo, let’s do it,” she told indianexpress.com.
Chatrapathi, a remake of the 2005 Telugu film, has been directed by VV Vinayak and also stars Bhagyashree and Sharad Kelkar. Talking about her experience of working with the director, she said how he knows what exactly ‘he is shooting’. She recalled, “I would have four dialogues in a scene, and he would take just two and tell me to forget about the rest. I would wonder if he edited my lines. And then in another scene, he would come and say take those dialogues now. So you may not know what he is up to, but he is very clear in his mind about what he wants from the actor. He also doesn’t take many takes, which was quite a new experience for me.”

We further discussed with Nushrratt about the ‘number game’ among female actors. The actor has done some performance-oriented roles and even commercial films. When asked about whether she believes in fighting for the top slot, the actor smiled to say, “You are asking about being number one, there are also terms like Top 5 and Top 10. I don’t understand what does that even mean. An actor either fits a part or doesn’t. You have these girls and you check who works better. You can’t go to these top 5 and cast among them. Yeh toh galat hoga (that would be wrong), what if none matches the part? Honestly, I am not in any race, nor want to be on any list.”
She further elaborated on how that has cost her projects. “I have been told that aap poster pe acche nahi lagoge (You won’t look good on posters). Imagine, are they making films or just posters? You can never sell a film only on poster value. So yes, I do hear a lot of these lingos and languages and this is why maybe I like working with new people. They can make Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sonu Ki Sweety… and kill it. I think at the end of the day if your work backs you, all these myths can be broken,” she said.
The Mission Mangal actor added that she doesn’t let these things demotivate her ever. “As I said, I am happy with the kind of people I am working with. I am not running any race, I am not here to work with everyone. You gel and vibe with some people and you make good films,” Nushrratt Bharuccha concluded with a smile.
