Naseeruddin Shah-Ratna Pathak’s son Vivaan jokes about nepotism, says Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year team accepted him ‘because they love my parents’

Vivaan Shah, who is the son of veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, recently spoke about the time when he worked with Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year. Vivaan was a part of the ensemble that was led by SRK and Deepika Padukone. Recalling his time on the movie, he shared that it was a “beautiful experience,” even though he does not come from the world of popular cinema but has grown up in “the world of parallel cinema and theatre.”

“I come from the world of theatre and parallel cinema,” he told The Quint adding “but they really accepted me because they love my parents, so yeah nepotism (laughs).” He continued, “I think they took a shine to me as I was a 23-year-old bindaas (carefree) kid. I can’t emphasise enough how nice they were to me.”

Vivaan Shah said that his father Naseeruddin Shah and Shah Rukh Khan share a relationship of mutual love and respect and recalled how SRK would tease him on the sets of Happy New Year. “He (Shah Rukh Khan) joked about it also. He had done this film with my dad called Chaahat and I don’t think my dad particularly wanted to be in that film. Shah Rukh used to joke a lot about that with me. He used to be like, ‘Your dad gave me a tough time in Chaahat, now I am also going to give you a tough time.’ He told everyone, ‘Give Vivaan a tough time because his dad gave me a tough time in Chaahat.’ Obviously, he said that jokingly. They treated me like a member of the family. He gave me the opposite of a tough time. He gave me the greatest time of my life,” Vivaan said. Naseeruddin and Shah Rukh also worked together on Chamatkar, which Vivaan described as ‘awesome’ and ‘brilliant’.

Speaking about SRK, Vivaan also said that the Pathaan actor is “one of the most brilliant minds I have ever encountered.”
