Horror-comedy Munjya has turned into an unexpected blockbuster, earning Rs 100 crore in just 17 days. The film’s production house, Maddock Films, shared on Instagram, “Munjya laughs and scares its way to 100 Cr! Thank you for the historic third weekend. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
According to the official figures shared by the production house, the film’s gross collection is over Rs 103 crore, while its nett collection is reported to be Rs 87.35 crore. On day one, the film raked in Rs 4 crore making an impressive opening, and earned Rs 36.50 crore in first week. With the same momentum, the film ended up minting Rs 32 crore in the second week.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma, Mona Singh, and Sathyaraj. Set against the backdrop of the Konkan region of Maharashtra, the film is deeply rooted in Marathi folklore. It tells the tale of the mythical creature Munjya and its chaotic impact on the life of Bittu, portrayed by Abhay Verma, known for his role in The Family Man.
Munjya is the fourth horror-comedy from Maddock, following Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya. Maddock is all set to release Rajkummar Rao-starrer Stree 2 in coming weeks.Sharvari had earlier spoken about Munjya’s box office success, “Munjya is off to a flyer at the box office and I have to admit that I’m over the moon right now. To have a big success under my belt is, of course, a huge confidence booster for me. My social media is flooded with love from across the country. That too is a huge validation for my work.”
