Mona Singh and Sharvari-starrer Munjya is having a dream run at the box office. The film is in its second week and shows no signs of slowing down. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned its highest collection so far on its second Sunday, garnering Rs 8.75 crore and bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 55.75 crore.

Munjya might have faced some competition from Kartik Aaryan’s latest release Chandu Champion in urban centres, but the film remains undeterred by its release and maintains a dominance in hinterland.  The Kabir Khan directorial released in theatres on Friday and minted Rs 10 crore on Sunday. Despite being in its second week, Munjya’s Sunday earnings stand almost at par with Chandu Champion.

Explaining the same, Taran Adarsh wrote, “#ChanduChampion may have impacted #Munjya at urban centres [marginally], but #Munjya leads in mass pockets / heartland. Importantly, #Munjya continues to defy all predictions as far as its *lifetime biz* is concerned… Additionally, it has silenced all those who felt – prior to its release – that it should’ve taken the direct-to-digital route. [Week 2] Fri 3.75 cr, Sat 6.75 cr, Sun 8.75 cr. Total: ₹ 55.75 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice.”

Munjya collected a total of Rs 35.3 crore in the first week and saw an over 85 per cent increase in its collection on Saturday, minting Rs 6.5 crore, followed by further growth on Sunday. The film will further benefit from the extended holiday on Monday for Eid al-Adha. It had an overall 46.35 per cent Hindi occupancy on Sunday, with maximum occupancy of 61.43 per cent in evening shows. Its worldwide collection stands at Rs 56.45 crore.

Munjya is the fourth film of Maddock Supernatural Universe, following Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya. Fans of Maddock’s horror-comedy series continue to flock to theatres to watch the movie. The film’s strong word-of-mouth promotion has also helped increase footfall.

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films, Munjya stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma, Mona Singh, and Sathyaraj in key roles. Set in Pune and the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Munjya is rooted in Marathi folklore and follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature and how he wreaks havoc in the life of Bittu, played by Abhay Verma of The Family Man fame.
