After winning hearts in Sita Ramam with Dulquer Salmaan, actor Mrunal Thakur is a part of R Balki‘s segment of Netflix’s Lust Stories 2 with Neena Gupta and Angad Bedi. In her piece of the anthology, Mrunal plays the role of a young woman who seeks sexual and interpersonal compatibility before she gets married to her partner.

Mrunal, in this interview with indianexpress.com, opens up about why she feels it is a good time where she can talk about her relationships, but wouldn’t if her partner is not from the same industry and wants to keep it “private”. She also talks about finding her calling in content that is free of formula and experimenting with her roles.

Talking about discussing a bold topic in Lust Stories 2, which revolves around exploring sexual compatibility with the partner before tying the knot, Mrunal says, “Lust is also an emotion, and I have never explored that (in terms of) my films. I love doing something that is extraordinary which is simple yet so relatable but we are afraid to talk about it.

“Also, working with Balki sir is such a delight. Every time I walked into the set, it felt so pure and so progressive at the same time the bonds between the grandmother, the granddaughter and the lover, it is so important for us to be honest with each other because until and unless you don’t tell each other what you want, you are not going to be happy — all these things I discovered in sets,” she adds.

Earlier, most actors hid their relationships and hardly ever opened up about their personal lives, but today the scenario is different where most actors flaunt their relationships in public. Without revealing her relationship status, Mrunal, on this, says, “Thank God I am born in this era where I can talk about my relationships. I have spoken in the past as well, and I have spoken about my breakups which most people don’t want to address as it’s very personal. But I feel that you learn through these experiences and I am glad that today I am also surrounded by people who are very vocal about what they feel, about their partner, about their lover.”

Mrunal, while being open to the idea of making her relationship public, says that she wouldn’t do it if her partner was not from the industry or if they want to keep it private.

“Obviously being a public figure… but if my partner is not from this industry, and he does not want it to be public (I will not discuss). However, I don’t think that if I get married, I won’t get work. So I am in a much better space and thanks to people like Neena ma’am, Angad Bedi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Neha Dupia, who have spoken up openly about their relationships that they are just normalising things. It is so normal now, and it is absolutely okay if you have a child in your twenties or in your thirties,” says the 30-year-old actor.

Mrunal then spoke about why she stays away from “formula films” and characters that are attached to stereotypes. “As an actor I always have that hunger to bring out the best and present different types of content to the audience. I want them to be entertained,” Mrunal concludes.
