Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Raniganj released in theatres almost a week ago and while the film has not created a strong impression at the box office so far, Akshay has been promoting his film after the release. The film has been in the theatres for six days and has made Rs 16.9 crore so far, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. On the sixth day, the film made Rs 1.30 crore in the domestic market.

Mission Raniganj started its box office journey with Rs 2.8 crore and made Rs 5 crore on its third day, which was a Sunday but since then, the collections have been on a steady decline. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, Mission Raniganj has released almost two months after Akshay’s last release OMG 2, which turned out to be a surprise hit at the theatres.

In an earlier chat with Times Now Navbharat, Akshay addressed the film’s failure and said, “It is not a commercial film. It has not earned as much as it should have earned. But I have come here knowing that the film has not done well, to own the film and say that this is one of my best films.”

Akshay’s OMG 2, which starred Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role, was surrounded in controversy when it released as the film received many modifications from the censor board. Now that the film has started streaming on Netflix, there is renewed interest in it and Akshay has said that he chose to go ahead with the same version that went in theatres out of respect for the CBFC.

He recently spoke to ANI and questioned if anyone has dared to make a film on sex education and masturbation in India. He said, “I made that film (OMG 2) for children. It is a film to be shown to children. Unfortunately, it cannot be shown because it was given an adult film certificate and there is nothing adult in it.”
