Matt Damon reveals how Tom Cruise shoots his Mission Impossible stunts, says he fired the safety guy who called Burj Khalifa action scene ‘too dangerous’

Damon, pulling off a brilliant imitation of Cruise, narrated how the action star managed to do the stunt– despite being warned that it’s impossible to make it happen.

“I asked him, ‘Can you tell me how that happened?’ Now he’s a really intense guy, he goes like (imitates Cruise) ‘Yeah I’ll tell you how it happened. I’ve been thinking about this shot for 15 years.’ I am like, ‘Wow really!’ and he says, ‘So I go to the safety guy and I lay it all out. Safety guy say we can’t do it. It is too dangerous, you can’t do it. So, I get a new safety guy,'” Damon said about Cruise as the audience started laughing.

The actor said the difference between him and Cruise was never more apparent, as he would have backed out from a stunt if the people responsible to ensure its safety had dubbed it a bad idea. “That’s the beginning of his story and I say, ‘stop!’ That’s where we are different. Like, when the safety guy says no, I am like, ‘The safety guy said that’s not a good idea!'” he added.

Tom Cruise currently stars in the seventh installment of Mission Impossible. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One released on Wednesday and has been doing impressive business, especially in India, as it collected Rs 63 cr nett in five days.

According to AP, the film launched with a franchise-best $80 million over five days, though it came in shy of industry expectations with a $56.2 million haul over the three-day weekend, according to studio estimates.

“The Paramount Pictures debut was boosted by strong overseas sales of $155 million from 70 markets. But while a $235 million worldwide launch marked one of the best global openings of the year, “Dead Reckoning” couldn’t approach the high-speed velocity of last summer’s top film, ‘Top Gun: Maverick,'” the report read.

In India, Dead Reckoning Part One has outperformed recent Hollywood films and is likely to emerge as the biggest Tom Cruise hit ever, surpassing the lifetime collection of the sixth Mission Impossible, which was around 80 crores nett.
