Manoj Bajpayee and Arshad Warsi answer if they would do a film like Animal: ‘There are things that we like to see but not do’

Ever since its release, Animal has been the talk of the town. At a recent roundtable, Arshad Warsi, Manoj Bajpayee and Aparshakti Khurana shared their thoughts about the film and answered whether they will work with Animal’s director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Sharing his thoughts about Animal, Arshad told Bollywood Hungama, “All the serious actors may hate the film, but I love the film. It was like the male version of Kill Bill. My whole point of view is different, I look at films as complete entertainment and when you go to theatre this is what you want to watch. I don’t want to think too hard, don’t teach me, don’t give me lessons, I learned it in school.”

Calling Animal engaging, Aparshakti said, “For me where the film wins is that it made me forget the moral compass after a couple of scenes. The composition in which scenes were written was so different than what we have seen before and it almost seemed like a comedy film that has gags and doesn’t have a screenplay. This film just had really good structured scenes which was so engaging.”

Manoj emphasised that above all a film has to be engaging. He said, “It has to be engaging. If it engages you, you completely forget about the morality, all your principles, and everything and you just watch a story and how the director wants you to watch it. That’s it. I have maintained this that if films could change society then by now we would have been living in heaven.”

When asked if they will work with Sandeep in the future, Manoj said, “You can’t just go by the name of the filmmaker but you have to see what is being offered. If everything is okay then why can’t we do the film?”

Arshad added, “There are things that we like to see but not do. Animal would come in that bracket. For instance, when Indra Kumar called me to do Grand Masti, I don’t like those kind of films. I don’t like sex comedies. I don’t mind watching it, it’s funny but I don’t want to do it. So, as an audience I like to see it, but as an actor I don’t want to do it. I like porn but I don’t want to do it.”

Animal has been the most polarising film of the year. While the film is having an astronomical run at the box office, it has divided the audience, with many calling out the film for its blatant misogyny and gory violent scenes.
