Mamta Kulkarni resigns from her role as Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhara: ‘Some people have a problem with me…’
Mamta Kulkarni was appointed as Mahamandaleshwar on January 24 in the presence of Juna Akhara's Mahamandaleshwar Swami Mahendranand Giri, and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi.

Days after being appointed as Mahamandaleshwar by the Kinnar Akhara, Mamta Kulkarni stepped down from the role after severe backlash and internal conflicts. The actor took to her social media handle to share a video announcing her resignation from the post.
In the video, Mamta could be heard saying, “I, Mahamandaleshwar Yamai Mamta Nandgiri, am resigning from this post. The respect given to me was for my 25 years of penance, but some people have a problem with me being Mahamandaleshwar.”
The former actor expressed disappointment in being judged for her career in Bollywood. She said, “I left Bollywood 25 years ago and disappeared on my own. Who stays so far away from makeup and glamour otherwise?”
Justifying her spiritual authenticity, Mamta Kulkarni shared, “My Guru, Shri Chaitanya Gagangiri Maharaj, was a Siddha Mahapurush. I have done 25 years of penance with him. I don’t need to go to Kailsa, Manasarovar, or the Himalayas because all the worlds are already in front of me.”
She also accused Kinnar Akhara of being “disconnected from Brahma Vidya”. Calling them “egoistic”, Mamta said, “They fight among themselves and have no understanding of the truth.”

Mamta Kulkarni even revealed that she didn’t have the money to join the Akhara. “When I was asked for Rs 2 lakhs, I didn’t have it. Jai Ambagiri Mahamandaleshwar gave it from his pocket. The money I have comes from deep penance, not material pursuits.”
She concluded her video, saying, “This post was a certificate for sharing knowledge, but perhaps it’s a sign that I should step away. I am returning it with gratitude. Namaste.”
Mamta Kulkarni was appointed as Mahamandaleshwar on January 24 in the presence of Juna Akhara’s Mahamandaleshwar Swami Mahendranand Giri, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and other Kinnar Mahamandaleshwars. She was even renamed Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.
However, soon after her appointment, Rishi Ajay Das, who claims to be the founder of the Kinnar Akhara, told reporters, “Laxmi Narayan Tripathi is being removed from the position of Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara. She disregarded the principles of Sanatan Dharma and national interest by appointing Mamta Kulkarni, who has been accused in a case of sedition, as a Mahamandaleshwar without following the Akhara’s traditions.”
In her reaction, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi told PTI, “Only those who are part of my board and system can remove me.” She defended Mamta Kulkarni’s appointment and said, “Mamta Kulkarni is and will remain a Mahamandaleshwar. There are no charges against her anymore. All cases have been dismissed. Our legal team will take action against Ajay Das.”
Laxmi even claimed Ajay was expelled in 2017 after he misused Kinnar Akhara’s funds during the 2016 Ujjain Kumbh. She further shared that the Akhara allied with Juna Akhara in 2019 and accepted Mahant Hari Giri as their guru.
She further shared, “Our constitution allows both men and women to be part of the Akhara. The true founders of Kinnar Akhara include me, Durga Das and 22 organisations from across India.”
