Mahima Chaudhry advised Hina Khan to not go to America for cancer treatment: ‘Because the medicine is the same, whether you have it here or there’

Mahima Chaudhry claimed she advised Hina Khan to get her breast cancer treated in India, as the medicine remains same across the world.

Hina Khan has been thankful to one person since the beginning of her cancer journey, and that’s none other than Mahima Chaudhry–a cancer survivor herself. In her Instagram posts, Hina mentioned how Mahima was the first one to come in her support after her breast cancer diagnosis, and also gave her a surprise visit at the time of her first chemotherapy. Recently, the veteran actress opened up about her bonding with the Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actor, and revealed how she advised her to get her treatment done in India.

In an interview with India Today, Mahima recalled her meeting with Hina and said, “I met Hina, very casually at a party, and we were in touch.” She further revealed, “But, the first person she called after diagnosis was me. She said, ‘I have booked myself, and I am going to America and I am doing this and that.’ I said, ‘That’s exactly how I felt. But, you will be on your own (in America). And it’s a very very tough treatment.'”

Mahima explained, “Like when you are going through the treatment, it’s horrid. I said, ‘Do it in Bombay’. Use the same doctors because the medicine is the same whether you swallow it here, or you swallow it in America. The doctor there will also be an Indian. In fact, if you will see some American doctor treating you, you will feel like, ‘Can’t I have an Indian doctor treating me?’ You will not have the trust. But, here you will.”

Backing her claims, Mahima said, “During COVID, when people were having paracetamol there (America), we were also having it here. When the treatment is the same across the world, why not do it in your home country? She couldn’t thank me enough.” She added, “When you share your sorrow, the bonding hits different. Just like how we gather for celebrations, we should also gather when someone is battling something. It motivates them.”

Anupam Kher, who was also a part of the interview, added, “When Kirron (Kher) was diagnosed with cancer, she got her treatment done here in Bombay. On the other hand, Rishi Kapoor was in America for almost a year. There you don’t have your own home, you don’t have your people. At least here, the atmosphere is more homely. Mr Anil Ambani sent his aircraft to pick Kirron and bring her to Kokilaben Hospital.”

Previously, in a long note, Hina Khan thanked Mahima and wrote, “She has been there With me , guiding me , motivating me and illuminating my Path before me during this toughest phase of my life. She is a Hero. She is a Super Human Being. She went out of her way to make sure my journey was Easier than hers, she lifted my spirits and comforted me every step of the Way. Her Hardships became my Life Lessons. Her Love and Kindness became my benchmark and her Courage became my Greatest Goal. We became friends and shared our individual experiences but she never once made me feel that I was alone, she made it through and she made sure that I Realise and believe that I would too.”

On the work front, Mahima Chaudhry and Anupam Kher are awaiting the release of two of their films, Signature and Emergency.
