Mahesh Bhatt was married to Kiran Bhatt and father to two children, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt, when he fell in love with Soni Razdan and decided to marry her. Recently, while speaking to Pooja on her podcast, The Pooja Bhatt Show, the filmmaker broke down as he recalled that phase of his life. He also remembered how, despite his decision, Pooja remained sympathetic towards him, even at a very young age. Speaking to Pooja on the podcast, Mahesh Bhatt said, "You remember when I told you that I would not be living here and please don’t mistake this as my rejection of you, there is another woman in my life, but I love you. And I will always take care of your mother and this house." Overcome with emotions, Mahesh Bhatt broke down on the show. He continued, "I can’t thank you enough for that expression, because you looked at me, and I thought you didn’t judge me." Pooja admitted, "No, I didn’t judge you." Pooja also recalled the time when Mahesh told her about his relationship with Soni Razdan even before informing her mother. She said, "I saw you sitting at the edge of my bed and telling me about the woman that you have met, Soni, and the fact that you’re going to be marrying her and move out. I was just privileged to be treated as an equal because you told me this before you even told my mother." Despite the upheaval, Pooja maintained a good relationship with her father even after he married Soni Razdan. She also shared that she was cordial with Soni and revealed how, years later, Soni apologised to her for the circumstances of her relationship with Mahesh. "Many years later, I went on a recce with Soni for a film called Love Affair and she just told me that I felt so guilty at that time, and she said it in such a bare manner. I told her, 'Soni it’s not your fault, you couldn’t have taken him away.' So I genuinely believe that," she said. Soni and Mahesh welcomed two daughters after their marriage - Alia and Shaheen Bhatt.
