Luv Ranjan gears up for sequel to Pyaar Ka Punchnama
Luv Ranjan: If you ask me whether I planned a sequel while making Pyaar Ka Punchnama,I didn't.
Director Luv Ranjan of surprise hit Pyaar Ka Punchnama released in 2011,gets chatty about his future plans for a sequel to the film and why he’s termed as a misogynist.
Having worked with a team of newcomers in both his films,Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) and Akaash Vani (2013),Luv Ranjan feels the experience has made him a better director.
“I dont think I could have learnt as much about my craft working with stars. Just the sheer freedom you get while working with newcomers is exciting,” he said in an exclusive telephonic interview with Indian Express.
While most directors choose to flow in the direction of chick flicks,Luv Ranjan took a great risk when it came to Pyaar Ka Punchnama and did the complete opposite. “The desire is not to be counted amongst most directors,” he says.
Though most feel that Luv Ranjan aspires to make solely youth-centric films,he says,”I think its just a reflection of my own experience in life. The truth is Akaash Vani was not a young film. The second half of the film was quite mature. It’s unfortunate that not many people have seen the film,so I am still associated more with Youth Centric Films.
Luv Ranjan said he is currently working on a sequel to hs hit film Pyaar Ka Punchnama.
“It’s a sequel in a true sense. It takes the life of characters forward. Hopefully, itll be funnier. It has the same cast. Thats all I can tell you right now, he says refusing to spill more. With the on-going trend of sequels nowadays,we asked Luv Ranjan if PKP sequel has a strong storyline or was it only because the prequel did well? If you ask me whether I planned a sequel while making Pyaar Ka Punchnama,I didn’t. Since it was so well received by the audience the desire to explore the lives of the characters was born. Also the financial feasibility is a definite factor. But after everything Im making sure that its a good film on its own. If I hadnt been able to come up with a strong storyline,I wouldnt be making it, he replied.
Having cast actress Nushrat Bhraucha in both his films,Luv Ranjan says he shares a comfortable equation with the actress.
“After having worked with her in two films,it’s become easy and fun. Shes a thoughtful and sincere actress, which makes it a pleasure to direct her. Nushrat will also be seen in the up-coming sequel to Pyaar Ka Punchnama.
On being asked if he dreams or plans on working with A-Listers in the futute,Luv Ranjans reply is straight and to the point. No dreams. No Plans. Nothing against it either. If and when the need arises, would definitely work with them. Hopefully, that need will be creative and not financial.”
Having once raised the question,Why is India the highest porn watching nation? Luv Ranjan says,”I am a firm believer that an oppressed society gives birth to crime. No good can ever come out of anything if you try to put every problem in the closet rather than talking about it. And sex in our country is a taboo, which for a country with such a high population is ironical.”
On being asked why people term him a misogynist,he says,It’s like believing that Mr. Yash Chopra believed in adultery because he made Silsila. Having an opinion is a hobby of our people. I dont think people think before voicing an opinion. And unfortunately my second film AkaashVani didnt do well commercially. If it had I dont think I would be answering this question right now.
