Kumar Sanu, who recently performed in sold-out shows in the USA, has expressed his frustration over not getting enough work in the Hindi film industry. The singer, who belted out various iconic numbers in the 90s and earned the title of ‘Melody King of Bollywood,’ lamented that while he receives a lot of respect from music directors, it rarely translates into work opportunities.

In a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, Sanu explained the reasons behind his lack of playback singing opportunities. He said, “Mera journey abhi tak bahut achha raha hai (I have had a great journey till now), everybody respects me in the industry. Par sabse badi baat hai ki log respect toh dete hain, pyaar dete hain, hamara gaana bhi sunte hain (but the biggest thing is that people give me respect, love and even listen to my songs). I don’t know why they are not using my voice for more songs in Hindi films.”

Sanu even questioned the sincerity of the love he receives from people in the Hindi film industry, saying, “Yeh question mann mein hota hai (This question keeps coming in my mind). When they are showing so much love when I am in front of them (why not make me sing too). I don’t know if it is real or not. Whatever it may be, they definitely give respect for sure.”

In an earlier interaction with indianexpress.com, Sanu discussed why only a few singers maintain a monopoly in playback singing while newcomers struggle to break in. He commented, “There are quite a lot of singers today but sadly they all sing in the same way. You cannot blame them as those composition, genre and style is working. This is why listeners feel only one singer is singing all the songs. They are all talented, no doubt, but sadly have no individuality.”

In June, Sanu completed a tour across the USA and Canada. On the playback singing front, he crooned the song “Sweekar Kar Lena” in Manav Kaul’s film Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper. He also sang for Rajkummar Rao’s character in the 2023 film Guns & Gulaabs.

India’s strategy: Remain quiet, don’t give in, wait it out for now
After Trump doubles tariff, India’s strategy: Remain quiet, don’t give in, wait it out
Explained1 hr ago

US President Donald Trump may have doubled the tariffs on India to 50 per cent, but New Delhi is not alarmed or unduly perturbed; rather the government seems to be prepared to wait it out for the next few weeks or more — deal with his increasing frustration by remaining calm.

It has taken an unequivocal call that Trump cannot tell India not to trade with Russia or distance itself from BRICS.
