Singer KS Chithra, often hailed as the Nightingale of South India, recently opened up about her cherished interactions with the late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Chithra revealed how Lata ji’s words of encouragement helped her navigate a difficult time in her life, following the loss of her daughter, and inspired her to continue pursuing her passion for music.

In a heartfelt conversation with O2India, Chithra recalled how Lata ji reached out to her on multiple occasions. She reminisced about the time she dedicated an album to Lata ji on her 80th birthday, which the legendary singer deeply appreciated. “Lata ji is there in all female singers because we grew up listening her. On her 80th birthday we released an album dedicated to her and she called me and appreciated me for that.”

Chithra also spoke about a pivotal moment when Lata ji motivated her during a period of immense grief. Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Chithra had withdrawn from public events and declined to attend an award ceremony named in Lata ji’s honor, which was to be held in Hyderabad. She explained, “I was selected for the award, but I refused to go because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. Then, Lata ji called me and said she was aware of everything I had gone through. She told me that the rest of my life should now be about music and which is why I shouldn’t sit at home and should go and receive the award. She also told me that she will come to the award ceremony to see me and I went only for Lata ji.”

KS Chithra has recorded over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages, she remains a beloved voice across the country. Her iconic tracks include Piya Basanti in Hindi, Vanambadi in Malayalam, Chinna Kuyil in Tamil, Kannada Kogile in Kannada, and Sangeeta Saraswathi in Telugu.
