Amid rumours that Bollywood icon Aamir Khan has been roped in for a biopic on legendary playback singer-actor Kishore Kumar, to be helmed by Jagga Jasoos (2017) and Barfi! (2012) director Anurag Basu, the music giant’s son Amit Kumar has now broken silence on the matter and responded to the speculations.

On Monday, Pinkvilla had reported citing its sources that Aamir Khan and Basu have been in discussions for a Kishore Kumar biopic, which will be produced by Bhushan Kumar. “The Kishore Kumar biopic is a subject close to the heart of Anurag Basu and Bhushan Kumar. Aamir is also a big admirer of Kishore Kumar and loved the vision that Basu has to bring the life of legend to the spectacle. The filmmaker has treated it very differently, and that’s what has fascinated Aamir the most,” the media house quoted one of its source as saying. Reportedly, the actor and director have already had four-five meetings.

Days after this news gained traction online, Kishore Kumar and Ruma Guha Thakurta’s (Ruma Ghosh) son, playback singer-composer Amit Kumar, weighed in, though in a veiled manner. While he didn’t confirm the speculations, he also didn’t dismiss them entirely, leaving room for hope. “Nothing is finalised. As per our legal team’s order we can’t mention any developments,” Hindustan Times quoted the singer as saying.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential playback singers in Indian cinema, Kishore Kumar’s distinct voice, wide range and ability to sing in various musical genres made him a beloved figure in the country’s music scene. He sang not only in Hindi but also in languages like Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Odia and Urdu. He also acted in films such as Ladki (1953), Naukari (1954), New Delhi (1956), Musafir (1957), Dilli Ka Thug (1958), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Half Ticket (1962), Mr X in Bombay (1964) and Padosan (1968), among others. Following the massive debacle of his Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), Aamir has been on a break and will next be seen in director RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par.
