Kareena Kapoor Khan is brimming with excitement, almost like a newcomer as she readies for her digital debut with Jaane Jaan. She has her co-stars Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat to thank for this as in her own words, they kept her alert and on her toes. She also opened up about entering the web space and how Jaane Jaan came to life.
At the trailer launch of the Sujoy Ghosh directorial, Kareena said she’s more nervous than she was 20 years ago when she made her film debut. The actor said that watching the promo so closely on the TV screens gave her jitters as people would be now watching her on their phones. She added that Sujoy and her have been trying to work together for over a decade, and it finally happened with this film.
“It all happened thanks to Jayu (co-producer Jay Shewakramani), who has made the film along with Akshai Puri. He had this idea during Bhoot Police of why don’t we make this film. We were shooting in Dharamshala and I was pregnant with Jeh then. Everything just came together. He came back saying Sujoy is very excited and he has been with the script for so long,” Kareena said, adding that she was the one to suggest taking the film to Netflix. “Everyone is doing so much work there and I didn’t want to be left behind.”
The Jab We Met actor then said how the producer threw some actors names but she was adamant to work with “actors… really amazing actors”. Kareena Kapoor said she wanted to work with someone with whom she can add freshness, and also learn from. “He came back saying how about Jaideep for the professor’s role and Vijay for that part. I didn’t even think for a second and said let’s do it. I want to work with them. And I can’t thank them enough. Like sometime in the middle of the shot, I would look at them and forget my lines. I have never done it, they are so natural. It was just meant to be,” she added.
Her comments made co-star Vijay Varma, who was sitting beside her as he tried to hide his face. He also called her a ‘goddess’ and that he was excited to pair up with her.
Kareena Kapoor said husband Saif Ali Khan had already advised her to pull up her socks up before working with Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat.
“Saif had already told me ‘Listen, it’s not like van se make up laga ke nikalogi aur set pe dialogue bologi. Stop this attitude. You are working with Jaideep and Vijay, be prepared. They would be improvising and all so you better be on your toes. It’s not like a picnic’. He warned me. So I was a little more [cautious] like a student who’s more alert. Saif was like ‘stop being a backbencher, aage aake kuch karo’. I was constantly watching them. I know that Jaideep is so prepared, so composed, like his character. Vijay, I realised, is a bit like me. He may be laughing around on the set but [when it comes to work] every take is so different from another. But it’s very thought off.. like what is he going to say.”

She added that working together with them kept her on her toes, and she’s happy about it. “An actor should be constantly threatened by another actor on set otherwise it’s just gonna be [basic]. That slight alertness around… about how they will react [added to the fun] of the entire process.”
