Comedian Kapil Sharma‘s show has been running successfully on television and streaming for over a decade. In the last few years, the show has witnessed several changes — from mediums to titles — but it has remained a fan-favourite despite it all. However, recently, FIR and ABCD writer Amit Aaryan shared a rather controversial take on Kapil Sharma’s programme, and called it “the worst show in the history of India.” In a recent interview, Amit called out the show for its vulgar jokes, and for its tendency to punch down.

In an interview with Digital Commentary, Amit Aaryan declared, “The Kapil Sharma show is the worst show in the history of Indian comedy.” He explained, “This might sound controversial, but I have the right to say this because I am more experienced than Kapil Sharma, Kiku Sharda, and Krushna Abhishek.” He said that women are disrespected on Kapil’s shows. “Women are supposed to be respected,” he said, and citing the example of Krushna’s character Sapna, he added, “She only says below the belt stuff.”

He further stated Kapil Sharma is not capable of heading a show all by himself, and that the cast he has surrounded himself with should be credited for his success. “If you watch Kapil Sharma’s show carefully, it’s not him who is running the show, but the other characters. He even released a show on Netflix, Kapil Sharma: I Am Not Done Yet. Nobody watched that show, because nobody was interested in what he had to say.”

Kapil Sharma’s stand-up special failed to crack the global top 10 in its run, although The Great Indian Kapil Show has managed to do so.

Amit Aryan claimed that the entire cast of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show has contributed to poor humour. “The problem is today’s generation hasn’t been exposed to good comedy, so they laugh when someone fat-shames and body-shames others,” said the Do Knot Disturb writer.

Kapil Sharma has been hosting his comedy shows since 2013, when he debuted with Comedy Nights With Kapil on Colors TV. Three years later, Kapil moved to Sony Entertainment Television, where he started a new show with same old format: The Kapil Sharma Show. The show ended abruptly. His next show was then launched in 2018 as Family Time With Kapil Sharma, which ended after only 3 episodes.

In March this year, the comedian moved to the streaming giant Netflix, where he debuted The Great Indian Kapil Show. The show recently returned with the second season. However, the viewership has witnessed a decline when compared to the first season. The first episode of show’s second season, featuring Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, recorded 1.2 million views and 1.4 million viewing hours, half of what the episode featuring Ranbir Kapoor garnered upon its premiere in the debut episode of first season.

Amit Aryan is known for writing in shows and movies like FIR, Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai, Lapataganj, ABCD, and Do Knot Disturb, among others.
