Actor comedian Kapil Sharma’s mother Janak is always seen in the audience during his comedy chat show, The Kapil Sharma Show. He reveals the reason behind it by saying that he wants to make his mother proud as his father late Jeetendra Kumar Punj passed away before fame came calling. Kapil recalls the last days he spent with his father, who was diagnosed with cancer.

In an interview with Aaj Tak’s Seedhi Baat, the actor remembered how the last few days of his father made him so sad that he prayed to God to either cure him or take him away.

“Till the time my father was conscious, we would talk to each other in the hospital, till then it felt alright and there was hope that he will be ok. Because 2-3 times it had happened that he was brought to Safdarjung hospital and he recovered and we went back to Punjab. But this time when he was taken to ICU, he didn’t come out. So, we couldn’t talk for four days or five days ,” Kapil said.

Further going down the memory lane, Kapil said, “So, on some day I would go to Laxmi Nagar at my uncle’s house to stay because they don’t let you go to the ICU because as my father was not conscious. Those five six days were terrible. I think at that point, I only prayed to God that ‘either you take him away or stop making him suffer.’”

Kapil started his journey to fame with comedy show Laughter Challenge and eventually gained popularity with his own chat show. He also debuted as an actor in Bollywood and made his debut in 2015 film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon and later did films like Firangi.

When asked, what would have been his father’s reaction to his success had he been alive, Kapil said, “I feel no one would have been happier that him. He passed away in 2004 and I came in Laughter Challenge in 2007. Sometimes I wonder if God could have given him 4-5 years more but well, we think of many things.”

The actor, who will next be seen in the film Zwigato, set to release on Friday, adds, “In school and college when I would win something in drama or anything, he would get so happy. So, I wonder if he was alive today, he would know that I am doing a show on my name on national Tv. He was a big fan of Dharam paaji. That is why my mother is in every episode of my show, wherever I can and as much as possible.”
