Director Atlee’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan is going from strength to strength at the box office, both domestically and worldwide. After a record-breaking week in theatres, Jawan nett box office stands at Rs 328 crore in India, and a gross total of over Rs 600 crore worldwide. This is the biggest-ever first-week total for a Hindi film in history. On Wednesday, its seventh day of release, the film added Rs 23 crore nett in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. According to Red Chillies Entertainment, the film earned Rs 660.03 crore worldwide. Box Office Worldwide, Jawan is set to pass the Rs 700 crore gross mark globally today, as it ends its extended first week of release.

Jawan debuted last Thursday, on the holiday of Janmashtami, when it made Rs 75 crore nett in India — the biggest-ever debut for a Hindi film. It peaked on day three, when it made Rs 80 crore across India. Jawan also earned the distinction of having grossed over Rs 100 crore globally on its first three days of release. Collections refused to tank even as it entered the week; Jawan made Rs 32 crore in India on Monday and Rs 26 crore on Tuesday. Wednesday’s occupancy for the Hindi-language release was 23%, with the night shows once again accounting for the biggest returns. Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, the film’s two most lucrative regions, reported occupancy of 24% and 25%, respectively.

Jawan, which has been designed as Shah Rukh’s first pan-India release, was also released in Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions. Tamil-language occupancy for day seven stood at 15%, while Telugu-language occupancy stood at 23%. Directed by Atlee, who is best known for his films with Tamil superstar Vijay, Jawan also features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in supporting roles.

Meanwhile, the blockbuster film Gadar 2 appears to be slowing down at the box office, after raking in Rs 516 crore. Gadar 2 is still around Rs 27 crore shy of overtaking Pathaan’s all-time record as the biggest Hindi-language hit of all time in India. But as things stand, it looks like Jawan will not only overtake Gadar in the coming few days, but Pathaan as well. Pathaan served as Shah Rukh’s grand return to form after a self-imposed five-year sabbatical following the back-to-back underperformance of several of his movies.

Films such as Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan have brought Bollywood back to pre-pandemic era glory, after an uncertain few years. Help was also provided by hits such as Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dream Girl 2, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Satyaprem Ki Katha and The Kerala Story. Shah Rukh will return to complete his hat-trick later this year, with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki.
