Just when it seemed like Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan was about to fade from theaters after a five-week run, National Cinema Day has completely changed the game. On Friday, October 13, ticket prices across many multiplexes were priced at Rs 99 and this gave a boost to many theatrical films.

After consistently making between Rs 70 to 80 lakh for nearly four days, Jawan experienced a massive surge yesterday, raking in a staggering Rs 5 crore, as reported by market tracker Sacnilk. The film’s domestic nett collection now stands at Rs 632 crore. Jawan had an overall 61.53 percent Hindi Occupancy on Friday.

The Atlee directorial has become the ‘highest-grossing Hindi film in the history of cinema’, as per Red Chillies Entertainment. Also starring Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, Jawan has minted Rs 1,125 crore worldwide. Despite the release of new films like Mission Raniganj, The Vaccine War, Fukrey 3, and Thank You For Coming, Jawan has continued to maintain a strong presence at the box office.

Fukrey 3 also performed well on Friday. The film starring Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat and Pankaj Tripathi among others, minted Rs 5.25 crore. Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj also raked in Rs 5 crores.

Jawan managed to set and break several records, many of which were held by SRK’s last release Pathaan. The YRF film earned Rs 543 crore in India and Rs 1043 crore globally. But Jawan exceeded these numbers in both India and worldwide earnings. However, the top spot is still held by Aamir Khan, whose film Dangal earned more than Rs 2000 crores, with a major portion of the earnings coming from China.

Jawan also stars Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Girija Oak, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Lehar Khan, Aaliyah Qureshi, Ridhi Dogra and Sunil Grover among others. Shah Rukh will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, which is eyeing a Christmas release.
