It’s now been over a month, but Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is still delivering daily collections of over Rs 1 crore. On its fifth Wednesday, the action drama added Rs 1 crore to its nett domestic tally, which now stands at Rs 627 crore. Jawan made Rs 1.05 crore on Monday, which it followed up with Rs 1.02 crore on Tuesday.

Having already broken almost every record that it could, the only target that Jawan can possibly still aim for is to gain a Rs 100 crore lead over Pathaan at the domestic box office. Also starring Shah Rukh, Pathaan made Rs 543 crore in India earlier this year, before being overtaken on every account by Jawan.

Directed by Atlee, Jawan delivered the top opening day, biggest single-day haul, biggest opening weekend and biggest opening week in the history of Hindi cinema. It also became the fastest Hindi movie to pass significant box office milestones, and became the second Hindi movie of the year to pass the Rs 1000 crore mark globally, once again after Pathaan.

Combined, the two films have grossed over Rs 2150 crore worldwide, but to put matters in context, even that figure is less than what Dangal was able to gross back in 2016. Most of that film’s money came from China, however. Neither Jawan nor Pathaan was released there. Jawan is currently the fifth-biggest Indian movie ever, behind KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Dangal.

The film still has a chance to hit the Rs 1200 crore mark globally, but its box office run was no doubt facilitated by a complete lack of comepetition and the unprecedented goodwill that Shah Rukh is currently enjoying. He would hope to continue the streak with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, which will be released around Christmas.
