Jai Santoshi Maa producer Dada Satram Rohra passes away at 85
Satram Rohra's 1975 production Jai Santoshi Maa was a historic blockbuster, earning Rs 5 cr on a reported budget of Rs 2.5 lakhs and remains one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema.

Veteran singer-producer Dada Satram Rohra, known for producing one of the biggest hits of all time, Jai Santoshi Maa, has passed away. According to an official communication, the movie veteran breathed his last on July 18. He was 85. Rohra was a known name in the Sindhi community and was a producer and a singer. The Instagram page of Radio Sindhi shared the news, writing that the veteran was the “only one” who could convince Lata Mangeshkar to sing a Sindhi song.
The official note on Instagram read, “We are deeply saddened to share that the Famous Singer & Film Producer Dada Satram Rohra passed away on 18th July, 2024. May almighty rest his noble soul in peace and give strength to his family in this difficult time. Dada Satram Rohra gave so many superhit songs along with famous singers like Dada Ram Panjwani, Bhagwanti Navani, Kamla Keswani and many more.
“He produced blockbuster sindhi movie “Hal Ta Bhaji Haloon” and Hindi Movie “Jai Santoshi Maa”. He is the only one who could convince Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar to sing a Sindhi song. Dada Satram Rohra’s demise is great loss for the Sindhi Community and the void can not be filled by anyone.”
His funeral was held on July 18 in the city. Dada Satram Rohra’s 1975 production Jai Santoshi Maa was a historic blockbuster. The Vijay Sharma directed film was made on a low budget of Rs 2.5 lakh and turned out to be an all-time blockbuster earning an estimated Rs 5 crore in 1975. The film remained in the top 25 earners for years after its release.

The Twitter account, Film History Pics, had reported how the craze of Jai Santoshi Maa was such that people traveled miles in bullock carts to watch it and “threw flowers/coins on screen, some left footwear outside the theatre small cinema hall owners even kept a donation box to earn money.”
Jai Santoshi Maa remained in the top 25 earners of all time for years after it’s release and is mentioned everytime a mid-sized film breaks out at the box office, like Vicky Kaushal’s Uri The Surgical Strike or recently Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files.
