Ira Khan says dad Aamir Khan would check if anyone in school troubled her; recalls living with mom: ‘People wanted to be friends due to…’
Ira Khan opened up about her bond with brother Junaid Khan and how their father, actor Aamir Khan, despite being busy with shoots, always ensured he stayed informed about their lives.

Like most siblings, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan had their share of fights growing up. However, their relationship evolved over time. In a recent interaction, Ira opened up about her bond with Junaid and how their father, actor Aamir Khan, despite being busy with shoots, always ensured he stayed informed about their lives and looked out for them, particularly if they faced challenges in school.
Speaking with People of India, Ira revealed that, as a child, she would deliberately do the opposite of whatever Junaid did. She shared, “I don’t know whether this happens with all siblings but either I wanted to be exactly like him in some aspects, while in some aspects I had to be exactly the opposite. He liked Manchester United. So I had to not like Manchester United.”
Ira went on to explain how their dynamic shifted when Junaid left for college, and the physical distance actually brought them closer. She said, “We fought every single day till he finished school. When he went to college, he got a life, so he stopped troubling me and then we actually became very close. So it was a very big shift but it was a fun shift.”
Ira also spoke about her equation with her parents, particularly her father, Aamir Khan, and reflected on how, from an early age, she understood that he was a celebrity. She admitted that being Aamir Khan’s daughter sometimes shaped how others approached her at school. “I don’t think anyone judged me, but yeah, people wanted to be friends with me because they were excited about who my dad was,” she said.
She also called Aamir a protective father. “He wouldn’t let me swim. He wouldn’t let me go in what was more than water till my waist in ocean. I would be like I have been swimming since age 3, just because you cannot swim… But he was a protective father,” she said.
Aamir has previously acknowledged that he was absent for much of his children’s childhood due to work commitments. However, Ira shared that he always made an effort to stay connected and inquire about their well-being. “He would travel and be on shoot, and I lived with my mom. But he would always check if anyone in school was troubling me or if everything was fine. We played a lot of board games and we were very competitive. All three of us- Junaid, dad and me. During Covid, we spent a lot of time together,” she said.
