Back in her television days, Mrunal Thakur had demeaned Bipasha Basu by remarking that she had “manly muscles.” Years later, the video resurfaced online, sparking widespread reactions. Mrunal eventually took to Instagram to apologise to her fans for the comments.

Now, Mrunal Thakur’s statement has prompted a reaction from television star Hina Khan. Hina spoke in support of Mrunal by re-sharing her apology post and writing, “We all make mistakes, especially when we are younger. I can very well relate to Mrunal, I too have made such silly mistakes in the past.. Some of us go through great exposure without the skill to handle it. But with time we evolve, we become kinder, we become compassionate.. We learn lifting each other up.. Fixing each others crown.. Just like all of you I too have witnessed both Bipasha’s and Mrunal’s inspiring journeys in the industry.. Both are fab, And Bipasha is an icon for the whole community. I am so glad and proud that Mrunal could own her mistake, committed by her past self that no longer exists.”

What sparked the criticism?

Previously, a video of Mrunal Thaur having a conversation with Kum Kum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja resurfaced online. In the video, they can be seen talking about fitness. Mrunal says, “Do you want to marry a girl who is manly with muscles? Go marry Bipasha. I am far better than Bipasha, okay?” The video prompted reactions like, “All my admiration for Mrunal, gone is seconds.” Another user wrote, “That person who you think is classy and dignified and then they open their mouth.”

Soon after, Mrunal took to her Instagram Stories to apologise. She wrote, “19-year-old me as a teenager said many silly things. I didn’t always understand the weight of my voice or how much words, even in jest, could hurt. But it did and for that I am deeply sorry.”

Bipasha Basu is yet to respond to the controversy. However, she shared a cryptic note that read: “Strong women lift each other up. Get those muscles beautiful ladies… we should be strong… muscles help you attain good physical and mental health forever! Bust the age old thought process that women should not look strong or be physically strong!”
