Hansal Mehta reveals Harman Baweja’s father ‘cried like a child’ after reading Scoop reviews: ‘Nobody knew how talented his son is’
Hansal Mehta revealed that Harman Baweja was initially hesitant to accept the role of ACP Shroff in Scoop, and the filmmaker had to 'emotionally blackmail' him into taking it.

After a rather forgettable stint in Bollywood, actor Harman Baweja made a comeback to showbiz with Hansal Mehta’s much-acclaimed series Scoop. In the series, Harman portrayed the grey character of ACP Shroff, receiving much acclaim for his performance. In a recent interview, Hansal disclosed that Harman was initially reluctant to accept the role and he had to ’emotionally blackmail’ him to take up the role.
Speaking to casting director Mukesh Chhabra on the YouTube channel Mashable India, Hansal shared how he persuade Harman to take up the role in Scoop. He said, “I had to emotionally blackmail Harman. I had confidence in him. His father had not been well for some time so I just told him, ‘Do this for your father. I promise you he will be really proud.’ He then told me, ‘If you say such a thing…’ But when the reviews came out and everybody appreciated Harman, he video called me and Harry ji started laughing and crying like a child after reading the reviews. It was his dream. Harry ji had launched Harman but nobody knows how talented his son is. That was one of the biggest achievements of my career.”
Harman Baweja made his Bollywood debut in the 2008 film Love Story 2050, which was produced by his father Harry Baweja. The sci-fi fiction romantic film, also starring Priyanka Chopra, didn’t work at the box office and was panned by critics. After Love Story 2050, Harman starred in a few movies like Victory, What’s Your Raashee which also largely went unnoticed by the audience.
However, Harman’s career experienced a revival after his portrayal of ACP Shroff in Scoop. His flawless portrayal of the complex character garnered favourable reviews from critics.
