Gangs of Wasseypur, RHTDM, Tumbbad: List of films to re-release on 30 August

From Bollywood classics Gangs of Wasseypur, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein to Kannada film Kariya, starring Darshan, a series of films are all set to re-release in theatres this weekend after Laila Majnu's success.

With no big films scheduled for this weekend, several Bollywood classics are set to re-release in theatres on 30 August. After the successful re-run of film Laila Majnu (2018) starring Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary, both parts of Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), R Madhavan-Dia Mirza’s Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), critically acclaimed folk horror Tumbbad (2018), and Kannada film Kariya (2003), starring incarcerated actor Darshan, are all set to hit the screens on 30 August.

Gangs of Wasseypur, which was originally shot as a single film measuring a total of 321 minutes, was released in two part in 2012. The films received widespread critical acclaim and were commercial succcesses at the box office. Both the films were reportedly made on a collective budget of Rs 38 crore, earning Rs 33.90 crore and Rs 31.57 crore, respectively, according to Sacnilk.

Similarly, Tumbbad, opened to positive reviews upon its release in October 2018. It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 5 crore. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, on the other hand, opened to mixed reviews, but gained cult following over time.

Additionally, Nagarjuna-starrer Shiva (1989) will re-release in theatres on 29 August on the occasion of his 65th birthday. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh (2012) will also release on the occasion of his 56th birthday. Nagarjuna’s another film Mass (2004) re-released on 28 August. Previously, films like Indra starring Chiranjeevi and Ghilli (2004) starring Thalapathy Vijay ran to packed halls upon its re-release. Malayalam films like Devadoothan (2000), and Manichithrathazhu (1993) are currently re-running in cinemas in Kerala.

Laila Majnu, which approximately grossed Rs 3.20 crores in India upon its original release in 2018, earned nearly two times of its original run–Rs 6.15 crore–upon its re-release, according to Sacnilk.
