Gadar 2 box office collection day 26: Blockbuster film just Rs 37 cr shy of overtaking Pathaan’s all-time record as Sunny Deol vs Shah Rukh Khan 2.0 heats up
Gadar 2 box office collection day 26: With Jawan just around the corner, the Sunny Deol-starrer's race to breaking Pathaan's all-time record could be impacted.

The drops in revenue that Gadar 2 is experiencing are highly unusual. Not only is the movie holding better than most Indian releases, even on its 26th day of release, it is displaying an ability to actually increase collections on a day-to-day scale. After making Rs 2.5 crore on day 25, Gadar 2 is said to have made Rs 2.6 crore on day 26, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
This takes the film’s total nett collection in India to Rs 506 crore, which means that it is only Rs 37 crore shy of beating the all-time record for a Hindi movie set by Pathaan earlier this year. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Pathaan made Rs 543 crore in its entire run, becoming the biggest Hindi-language hit in history. Another SRK release, Jawan, could prove to be a hurdle in Gadar’s path to success, both this week and in the long run. Depending on how good or bad the film is, Jawan is projected to become one of the biggest hits in history. Certainly, it’s expected to deliver an all-time number opening opening on Thursday, which should greatly impact Gadar 2’s chances of overtaking Pathaan.
But even if Jawan slows it down, it won’t put an end to Gadar 2’s run. Rs 37 crore is a manageable amount for the film, which opened to Rs 40 crore on August 11 but peaked on Independence Day, when it made Rs 55 crore. A sequel to 2001’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which itself was one of the biggest hits of its year, Gadar 2 is only the second Hindi-language release in history to make more than Rs 500 crore in India, which it did faster than Pathaan.
The film also marks a grand return to form for 80s and 90s star Sunny Deol, who hadn’t delivered a hit film in decades. Additionally, Gadar 2 and Pathaan have re-energised the Hindi box office after two entire years of uncertainty. In fact, they’re just a couple of movies in what has turned out to be a string of successful releases this year, which also includes Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Satyaprem Ki Katha, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and The Kerala Story.
