Actors Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are reprising their roles of Tara Singh and Sakeena for Gadar 2, the sequel of 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The makers on Thursday released the recreated version of “Main Nikla Gaddi Le Ke”, showing how an iconic song can be renewed without taking its essence away.

The song is picturised against a celebration where Tara Singh fulfills his son Jeete’s wish of owning a motorcycle. In an age where recreated versions have unnecessary rap bits added to them, this version doesn’t do anything like that. Instead, singer Udit Narayan recreates the magic of the original track.

The new song also features the vocals of Udit Narayan’s son Aditya Narayan and Mithoon.

The trailer of Gadar 2 shows Tara Singh crossing the border to rescue his son, played by Utkarsh Sharma, who is captured in Pakistan. The trailer reminded fans of Gadar. The sequel is set in Lahore during the year 1971. The film’s action and Tara Singh’s wrath on those spewing hatred between India and Pakistan is once again evident.

Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, is set to release on August 11 and will be clashing with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. When Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released in 2001, the film clashed with Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. Both films managed to captivate the audience. While Lagaan received global recognition, Gadar became a hit in India.
