Actor Sunny Deol’s latest film Gadar 2 box office collection on Monday showed no signs of slowing down as it recorded mammoth numbers on its fourth day. After a weekend collection of Rs 134 cr, Gadar 2 continued its momentum and netted an estimated Rs 39 cr on Monday, industry tracker Sacnilk reported.

With a huge Monday, Gadar’s total box office collections are now Rs 173 cr– a figure which has surpassed expectations of many in the trade, who expected Gadar 2 to fire but certainly not with this intensity. Box Office India reported that the collections of the film on Monday will be an “all-time record” as even on holidays big films struggle to get 30 crore net.

The four-day collections have now set the film for a massive Tuesday number on account of Independence Day. Gadar 2 is eyeing to clock at least Rs 55 cr on August 15, which would take its total to Rs 230 cr in five days, Sacnilk reported. Gadar 2 will manage these numbers despite a clash with Akshay Kumar fronted OMG2, which dented its showcasing.

Gadar 2 will now challenge the lifetime total of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which remains as the biggest Bollywood hit with collections of Rs 524 crore (Hindi) nett. Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh is confident Gadar 2 will enter the Rs 200 crore club within the first week with a sizable ticket sales set to take place on the Independence Day.

He had earlier tweeted, “It’s crystal clear by now – if #Gadar2 was a solo release, NOT clashing with another #Hindi film – it would’ve easily added another ₹ 30 cr in its *weekend total*.”

International magazine Deadline also mentioned the film’s box office success and said international entertainers should be promoted as Hollywood reels from the impact of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The magazine named Gadar 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer as good choices.

The sequel to Gadar Ek Prem Katha, which emerged as a blockbuster in 2001, is set in 1971, amidst the backdrop of the partition of Bangladesh and East Pakistan. Directed by Anil Sharma, it also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in important roles.

Gadar 2 has emerged as Sunny Deol’s biggest hit in his 40-year career. It is also his first film to enter the Rs 100 crore club. In fact, seeing the unprecedented demand for the film, early morning and late-night shows were added in many parts of North India by exhibitors.

Along with Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Akshay’s OMG 2, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar, Gadar 2 contributed more than Rs 390 crore to the combined gross box office in theatres across India, the highest in the last 100 years. According to a joint statement by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and Producers Guild of India, over 2.10 crore moviegoers thronged the theatres, the highest number of admissions in the last decade.
