Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 Box Office Collection Day 21: Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been in theatres for about three weeks and is still dominating the box office. The movie earned Rs 8.10 crore on Thursday, taking its total collection to Rs 482.45 crore.
Sharing the latest box office figures of the movie, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “#Gadar2 is the TYPHOON that refuses to slow down… REBOOTS and REVIVES the biz of mass pockets / single screens… The INCREDIBLE RUN continues in Week 3… [Week 3] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 13.75 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 4.60 cr, Tue 5.10 cr, Wed 8.60 cr, Thu 8.10 cr. He added, “#Gadar2 biz at a glance…⭐️ Week 1: ₹ 284.63 cr⭐️ Week 2: ₹ 134.47 cr⭐️ Week 3: ₹ 63.35 cr⭐️ Total: ₹ 482.45 cr#India biz. Nett BOC. #Boxoffice.”
Gadar 2 clashed with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer. On August 25, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2 also debuted in theatres. Dream Girl 2 minted Rs 14 crores on the opening day. However, the film did not have much impact on Gadar 2’s box office run.
Helmed by Anil Sharma, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprise their roles as Tara Singh and Sakina in Gadar 2. The film also stars Utkarsh Sharma in a pivotal role.
Sharma, in an interview with indianexpress.com on Thursday, shared how he and his team are working towards sending Gadar 2 to the Oscars.
He said, “People are calling me repeatedly to send the film to the Oscars.”
The director added, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) didn’t go, so I don’t know how Gadar 2 will go, but we are at it. But Gadar 2 should go; the film deserves it. Gadar also deserved it. Gadar was based on the 1947 partition, and we told the story in a very different way. It was a new and original story, and Gadar 2 is also a new and original story.”
The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave Gadar 2 1.5 stars and wrote that it “offers nothing new”. A part of the review read, “Gadar 2 is exactly in the same mould as the original, with the high-on-patriotism Tara Singh going on a rampage in Pakistan again, this time to rescue his strapping son (Sharma) from the clutches of the cruel Major General Hamid Iqbal (Wadhwa).”
