Shah Rukh Khan, having delivered two mega blockbusters, Jawan and Pathaan, took the big screen by storm with his highly anticipated third film, Dunki. Despite high expectations, the movie experienced a slow start at the box office due to underwhelming response from the audience. In the last three days, the film’s collection remained in single digits, but a notable surge was observed on Sunday, attributed in part to the New Year holiday, resulting in a Rs 12 crore box office intake. This has brought the film’s total domestic collection to Rs 188.22 crore, as reported by Sacnilk.

During the first week of its release, Dunki garnered slightly over Rs 160 crore. While it encountered a 14 per cent decline in collections on Friday, with earnings of Rs 7 crore, the weekend and the New Year holiday saw a substantial 28 percent growth on Saturday, bringing in Rs 9 crore. The upward trend continued on Sunday.

Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh Khan’s production company behind Dunki, reported a global box office collection of Rs 361.30 crore.

Dunki faced stiff competition, releasing a day before Prabhas-starrer Salaar, which emerged as a blockbuster, amassing Rs 344.67 crore in India. The film is fast approaching the Rs 550 crore mark globally.

In comparison to Shah Rukh Khan’s other releases in the same year, Jawan and Pathaan, Dunki fell short of matching their box office records. Jawan retained its position as the highest grosser of 2023, while Pathaan secured the second spot with a global collection exceeding Rs 1000 crore. Both these films maintained dominance at the box office, consistently achieving double-digit figures even in the second week of their releases. Despite not reaching the heights of its predecessors, Dunki managed a respectable performance on the global stage. It has become the seventh biggest grosser of 2023.
