Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is all set for the release of his third film this year, after tasting success with Pathaan and Jawan. Titled Dunki, the film, which marks the first collaboration between the actor and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, will hit the theatres on December 21. The advance ticket sales of the film began on Saturday and within a day, the SRK starrer has raked in Rs 1.36 crore.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, nearly 38,000 tickets for 2836 shows in Hindi were sold on the first day of advance booking.

However, Dunki will face a clash at the box office with Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s pan-India action-packed movie, Salaar. It releases on December 22. Salaar’s advance ticket sale began on December 15 and it has also collected an impressive Rs 1.52 crore.

Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel posted on X that the next three days will give a clear picture about Dunki’s box office performance. He wrote, “Dunki Initial pre-sale starts on a remarkable note. Film has sold 10K +tickets at national chain multiplexes. Non national chains showing good movement too. If the momentum continues then Dunki will challenge top films of 2023 in terms of final advance booking. Next 3 days will give a clear picture.”

SRK, on Saturday, asked his fans to book tickets for Dunki. He took to his X handle and wrote, “Isse pehle ki Hardy cinemas mein pahoch jaaye…Aur saare shows houseful ho jaaye… Aap apni tickets book karlo! Kyun ki jab Hardy aur uske yaar ayenge, sabke dil Lutt Putt jayenge.”

In comparison to Jawan and Pathaan, Dunki has started slow, in terms of advance ticket sales. Jawan had managed to sell an impressive 2,00,454 tickets, amounting to Rs 6.84 crore, in less than 24 hours after ticket sales went live. Similarly, Pathaan had sold nearly 1.17 lakh tickets on the first day of advance booking, across the three national cinema chains, despite being available at limited venues.

Dunki also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, Anil Grover, and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. A week before its release, Dunki got the go-ahead from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was reviewed on December 15 and got a U/A certificate. It’s set to run for 2 hours and 41 minutes.
