Dimple Kapadia recalls Christopher Nolan asking her to leave her earrings behind after filming Tenet: ‘I promptly took them out’
Dimple Kapadia recently recalled an instance when Tenet director Christopher Nolan requested that she leave her earrings behind after filming.

Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s love for India is no secret. While his The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and Tenet (2020) were shot extensively in India, he has also worked closely with the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), a nonprofit organisation set up to preserve India’s cinematic heritage. Interestingly, Tenet featured legendary Indian actor Dimple Kapadia in a key role. Recently, Dimple opened up about her experience working on Tenet.
She also recalled an instance when Nolan requested that she leave her earrings behind after filming, which she did as well. “I went for a fitting (a process where actors try on their costumes to ensure they fit properly and meet the makers’ vision) and I promptly took out my earrings and wore them. Christopher Nolan turned around and said, ‘Oh, they’re lovely. You can leave them behind after your shoot,’ and I did,” she said during a chat with Vogue India.
Dimple also praised Tenet’s costume designer Jeffrey Kurland for his patience with her idiosyncrasies. “Jeffrey was really kind. He took all my nonsense and bullsh*t. He struggled with me, poor guy. But, what a look he created (for Dimple in the movie). It was absolutely beautiful!”
Also starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh in key roles, Tenet is a science fiction action thriller centred on a former CIA agent who is recruited into a secret organisation and tasked with unravelling the mystery behind objects moving backward in time and their link to an attack originating from the future.
