Dia Mirza reveals she worked as a background dancer, appeared in MM Keeravani’s music video before making it into movies
Dia Mirza has revealed that she worked as a background dancer in a Tamil film to be able to fund her first professional portfolio. The actor made her acting debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein in 2001.

Dia Mirza‘s grace and empathy extends in every role she portrays on screen. The actor, who made her acting debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite R Madhavan in 2001, recently opened up about her struggle.
In a new interview Dia has revealed that before becoming a full time model and a Bollywood actor, she worked as a daily wage worker in the Tamil film industry as a background dancer. She appeared in the ‘Jumbalakka’ song from En Swasa Kaatre in 1999. The film starred Arvind Swamy and Isha Koppikar in the lead, while Raghuvaran, Prakash Raj and Thalaivasal Vijay played supporting roles.
Talking to The Times Of India, Dia shared that she shot for the song in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City along with a few friends and had a “great time” there. Giving details about the song, she said, “Raju Sundaram was dancing, Mink was part of the song, it was a great experience.” Dia also shared that they earned “good money” to be able to do things they “wanted to do,” and she made enough money to fund the shooting of her first professional portfolio.
Dia then started appearing in music videos, one of which, she remembered was composed by Oscar winning music director MM Keeravani when she was just 15. She shared, “We shot the video entirely in Hyderabad. I have been looking for the song on YouTube.”
On the work front Dia’s last project Bheed, directed by Anubhav Sinha, also starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar is running in cinema halls. She’s reportedly also starring in Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki which is being directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.
