Waheeda Rehman made her debut in the movies in 1956 and over the many decades that she has been a part of the film industry, Waheedahas worked with many actors. There were a few actors whom she worked with repeatedly and one of those actors was Dharmendra. But, Dharmendra found that he could not be himself around the Guide actor for a somewhat strange reason. In a 2002 interview, Waheeda recalled why Dharmendra found it difficult working in her company. Waheeda told Filmfare that Dharmendra said, "I like working with you but I can't." Waheeda was known for her professionalism on set but Dharmendra just couldn't keep up with her. She recalled him saying, "You come on time, know your lines perfectly and are so upright. I need to use bad language to get josh. with you around, I can't be myself. I get so tongue tied." During an appearance on a dance reality show in 2021, Waheeda had jokingly called Dharmendra a "flirt." When Dharmendra actor visited the show as a special guest, he was asked about the same and said that he was "smitten" by Waheeda after he saw her in the 1960 film, Chaudhvin Ka Chand. He said, "Humne Waheedaji ki film dekhi thi Chaudhvin Ka Chand. Hungama hogaya tha. Sara zamana inpe fida tha, thode hum bhi fida the. Maine Waheedaji ko ek programme me kehte huye suna tasveere unko dikhayi gayi inme aapka crush kispe tha. Waheedaji ke muh se nikla ki Dharmendra. Toh main sochta hun yaar jab hum fida the, tab kya hua tha? (I had watched Waheeda ji's film Chaudhvin Ka Chand. There was a craze after that. Everyone was smitten by her and so was I. I saw her in a programme where she was shown pictures and asked 'who is your crush among these?' she replied 'Dharmendra'. I wonder what happened when I said I had a crush on her too?)" Waheeda Rehman and Dharmendra worked in six films together including Khamoshi, Man Ki Aankhen, Phagun, Baazi and Ghar Ka Chirag.
